Viscaria has reached an important milestone with the first blast carried out in the open pit in Kiruna. The activity marks the start of blasting as part of the reopening of the Viscaria Mine and signals the transition into the next phase of the project.
The current work is focused on developing the open pits to secure waste rock needed for the construction of the future tailings dam and supporting infrastructure. Any ore extracted at this stage will be stockpiled and processed once the processing plant has been completed. Approximately 20,000 tonnes of waste rock were blasted during the initial operation.
While still an early step, the blast represents tangible progress as Viscaria moves into execution and continues to lay the groundwork for a modern and responsible copper operation.
