Viscaria has signed a connection agreement with Vattenfall Eldistribution, securing the delivery of up to 45 megawatts of fossil-free electricity to the Viscaria mine in Kiruna. The agreement marks a key step in building the power infrastructure needed to launch mining operations in a sustainable and electrified way.
Access to reliable, fossil-free electricity is essential for operating a modern mine with a minimal climate footprint. The new agreement supports Viscaria’s ambition to become one of the five percent of copper mines worldwide with the lowest carbon emissions. Through deliberate technical choices – from vehicles and transport solutions to supplier partnerships – this goal is within reach.
“We have high ambitions in everything we do. This agreement lays a strong foundation for a long-term collaboration and represents an important milestone in establishing responsible copper production in northern Sweden,” says Jörgen Olsson, CEO of Viscaria.
